When I hit my late 30s, I finally accepted that I was a writer. Although I had been copywriting for years, I had never submitted any fiction anywhere. I had never even taken a writing class. But writing copy for moisture-wicking women’s panties just doing it for me. So, I labored over my writing sample and applied to the MFA program at Columbia. Now, I’m writing stories and pitching novels.

I’ve never been much of a 9-5er, which means do a little of everything to pay off my crushing student loans and keep my soul intact. I develop community-based programs that address health equity. I design curriculum and support efforts to improve access to higher education. I lecture at the university level. I teach creative writing to middle-schoolers and tutor students of all ages. I help people apply to college and grad school. I edit theses, dissertations, and academic papers. I do graphic design for nonprofits. I paint murals. I make paintings. Most of all, I represent Jersey!
